Help & FAQ

How do I contact someone at RestingSpot?

We stay actively engaged with our community, and we want to be as accessible as we can. A simple email to us from our contact page and you should hear back from someone very soon. We are also on Twitter and Facebook, and will continually provide updates there.

Why do I need RestingSpot?

RestingSpot was born when one of its founders was unable to locate his grandfather’s RestingSpot, despite being armed with a cemetery map and the direction of a cemetery employee. And he’d been there once before.

RestingSpot is a revolutionary service that uses your mobile device to mark or find a loved one’s RestingSpot. Once marked, that benefit exists forever. Put simply, if you’ve ever wasted time searching a cemetery, then we will make your life easier.

RestingSpot is also an online community where you can enjoy and share the legacy of a loved one like never before. Take a few minutes and check it out for yourself.

Why are the basic RestingSpot services free?

We started RestingSpot to solve a problem and build a community. If charging users a small amount to cover our development expenses deterred even a single user from using our services and contributing, then we aren’t achieving our goals. Some premium functions added from time to time may require a small fee, but we want to keep the platform as open and welcoming as possible.

Why do I need to log in and provide my email address?

We have no interest in spamming you or selling your information to third party companies. We do need to verify users who provide or modify information on the RestingSpot platform in order to keep our community legitimate. We also want to be able to contact our users directly when there are important updates or notifications regarding RestingSpot.

What are you planning on doing with the data or photos I submit?

Our focus is on creating a welcoming community, where people can cherish the memories of their loved ones for generations to come. Your privacy and your trust are important to us. In that spirit, we have no interest in transferring the data and photos you add to our platform to any third party.

Can I use the RestingSpot App on my iPod Touch?

Unfortunately not until the iPod Touch adds GPS functionality. The mobile app cleverly integrates the mobile phone’s GPS technology, so the key functions would not be available on the iPod touch.

My cemetery isn’t available or incorrect cemetery data for a RestingSpot

There are an incredible number of cemeteries, and we are constantly updating our database. Rest assured that even though a particular RestingSpot is listed in the wrong cemetery, the GPS coordinates are correct. If your cemetery name is wrong, please contact us and we will get that corrected.

Can I add a RestingSpot outside the United States?

Our goal is to locate every RestingSpot in the world. If you are outside the United States, please contact us and request that a cemetery be added to the database.

How do I add the profile of a loved one on the website?

Currently, RestingSpot online profiles are automatically created when a Spot has been marked via the mobile applications. This ensures that a profile is always linked with the physical RestingSpot. However, if you’d like to have a profile page for a loved one, and cannot mark it at the present time, send a detailed email from our contact page and we’ll help you out.

The information in an existing profile is incorrect. How can I change it?

To edit errors in the profile text (name and dates), there is an edit box on the left side of that person’s profile page. Click that box, and you will be able to correct any mistakes. All other information can be edited via the edit buttons below each category (Bio, Personality, Professional & Interests).

The GPS coordinates are incorrect for a RestingSpot. Why can’t I edit those on the website?

To ensure we maintain accurate data, once a RestingSpot has been marked via a mobile device, those GPS coordinates can only be changed by contacting us.

There are duplicate RestingSpots marked for a person. How can I delete one?

Send us a detailed email from our contact page and we will take care of it.

Can I upload photos from a different website?

Please do not add photos to RestingSpot that you have acquired from another source. Photos fall under copyright protection laws. In general, if you did not take the photo yourself, you should not post it. The only exceptions to this are photos that are old enough to have fallen into the public domain and photos for which you have received written consent from the copyright holder.

Can I upload video or music clips to a profile page?

These are both features we are very interested in implementing some time soon, but they are currently disabled.

What is Project RestingSpot?

The more RestingSpots that we can help get marked, the more value our services have for our users. So we are calling on you to help us mark every RestingSpot in the world. Once marked, everyone everywhere can not only easily find the location of loved ones, but can share and enjoy their memories and interact with others for generations to come.

How can I help?

Click the “Volunteer” link at the bottom of this page to join the existing Project RestingSpot group for your area, or to establish yourself as a volunteer Project RestingSpot leader.

What if my RestingSpot isn't saving a location?

Location Services on your phone needs to be turned on in order for the RestingSpot mobile app to function properly. Please check your settings to make sure that Location Services is on, and it is also on for the RestingSpot app.
